Oriented strand board (OSB), also known as flake board, sterling board, and aspenite in English, is an engineered wood similar to particle board, formed by adding adhesives and then compressing layers of wood fibers (flakes) in specific directions. It was invented by Armin Elmendorf in California in 1963. OSB can have a rough and variegated surface with individual strips approximately 2.5 cm × 15 cm (1.0 × 5.9 in), laid irregularly, and comes in a variety of types and thicknesses.
